Why I Became a Therapist

Chances are you’re carrying something heavy. Maybe it’s past pain that still lingers, emotions that feel too big to manage, or a feeling that you’re stuck and don’t know how to move forward. Whatever it is, you don’t have to face it alone.

I’m Ashley Latendresse, a Registered Psychotherapist, but more importantly, I’m someone who understands what it feels like to need support and not know where to turn. I’m here to offer you a place where you can lay down your burdens for a while and start finding your way back to yourself. I'm here to help you reconnect with the strength and resilience you already have. Together, we’ll create a space where you can breathe easier, look at what’s weighing you down, and start building the life you want to live.

Therapy changed my life. The counsellors, advisors, and therapists who supported me as I grew up and faced my own challenges, taught me the power of being heard and supported without judgment. That’s the space I now offer to you - a space where you can feel safe, understood, and empowered to heal.

If you’re ready to take the next step, I’m here to walk alongside you.

My Approach

When opening up about their experiences, it’s important for clients to feel confident in who they’re sharing that journey with.

Ashley is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). She holds a Master’s in Counselling Psychology (Yorkville University) and a Bachelor’s in Psychology (Trent University), along with specialized training in Addictions and Mental Health (Durham College).

She is trained in EMDR and has advanced training in ASSYST I/G, EMDR-PRECI, and EMDR-IGTP-OTS, helping clients process critical incidents, recent events, and ongoing traumatic stress safely and effectively. Ashley also draws from CBT, DBT, SFT, and the Gottman Method to tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs.

Her experience spans private practice, transitional housing, and crisis lines, with extensive work in suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and behaviour change. This background allows her to meet clients with both confidence and compassion, wherever they are in their journey.

01

Schedule Your Free Consultation

You’ll start with a free 20-minute phone consultation. You and your therapist will talk about what’s been going on for you and what you’re hoping to get support with. This is a chance to ask questions, get a feel for working together, and decide whether therapy feels like the right next step.

What Working Together Looks Like

If you’re imagining cold, clinical sessions where you feel like just another case file, you won’t find that here.

When you work with me, it’s real. It’s two people sitting down, talking honestly, figuring things out together. I’m here to walk beside you, not to lecture you. My approach is warm, grounded, and collaborative. You’ll always be met with compassion, authenticity, and respect.

I believe you know yourself better than anyone else. My role isn’t to tell you who you are or what you should do. It’s to listen, support, and guide you as you navigate your path toward healing.
